Mission Statement: The Regiment von Itzenplitz, Lüderitz Kompanie is a living history organization that attempts to portray as accurately as possible soldiers and their civilian contemporaries from the Kingdom of Prussia during the Seven Years War. Our organizations purpose is to educate the public on the life and times of individuals from the Kingdom of Prussia during the 18th century.
Who We Are: First and foremost the Regiment von Itzenplitz is a re-enactment/living history organization that is committed to keeping history alive, and to teaching it to any who are interested. Specifically we focus on Prussian history during the time known as the Seven Years War (1756-1763). However, we have a love of all things German, and history throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The Regiment von Itzenplitz is primarily based in the mid-west of the continental United States. Our headquarters is located in Indianapolis, IN. However, our membership is located throughout the United States, and we have sister units and honorary members in several countries in Europe and around the world. Our unit attends events throughout the United States, and we have plans to visit Europe very soon. Involvement and association with the unit is not limited to just attending living history events. For those individuals wishing to get involved with the unit please contact us on our contact page.
What We Do: What our organization primarily does is participate in re-enactments/living history events. These events usually take place over a weekend, and events are spread out throughout the country, and the world. An event usually takes place at an historic site, but not always. Many events take place in city parks, state parks, private property, public places, etc. An event usually involves a group of re-enactors coming together typically on a Friday afternoon or evening, and then spending the entire weekend (Saturday through Sunday) "portraying" a particular time period for that weekend. These events vary in size and type from gatherings of a few dozen folks all the way up to several thousand. Many of these events are open to the public, but some are private events only for the re-enactors. The re-enactors will change into period correct clothing and equipment, and then spend the weekend teaching living history, partaking in recreated battles, period cooking, camping and sleeping outdoors, and spending many quality hours with friends building bonds, and promoting comradery. Events vary in size and type, but typically have "public hours" during which time re-enactors are expected to be in period dress, and to interact with the public. Many events have "evening hours" during which time re-enactors are allowed to change back into "civilian cloths", and spend the evenings together as friends around camp fires, playing music, dancing, singing, and having a wonderful time together.
